Biographical Summary: Darrell Bazzell
Darrell Bazzell has been serving as the Vice Chancellor for Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since January, 2003. In this capacity, he serves as the university’s chief financial officer, and is responsible for the overall supervision of the university’s administrative functions, including budget, facilities planning and management, business services, police services, housing, health services and recreational sports. He also serves as a senior advisor to the chancellor and provost on administrative policies and practices.
He was with the Department of Natural Resources since 1993, and as DNR secretary from February 2001 to January 2003. Prior to that, he served as deputy secretary of the department for five years and administrator of its Office of Planning and Analysis for close to three years.
During his 24 years of service to the State of Wisconsin, he also served as deputy administrator for the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection’s Agricultural Resource Management Division and director of that agency’s Plant Industry Bureau. He was also a policy and budget analyst for the departments of Administration and Health and Social Services.
He has been active in numerous community service and professional organizations. He presently serves on the boards of the Madison Community Foundation, Gathering Waters Conservancy, United Way, Urban League of Greater Madison and the Boys & Girls Club. He is the former president of 100 Black Men of Madison and the Wisconsin Association of Black Public Sector Employees. Among the activities he enjoys in his spare time is being a Big Brother.
